loose suspension. clunking. strut and control arm?
So, last week, i had my front control arm and bushings and struts replaced.
today, while driving, i noticed a clinking when i hit ’some’ bumps on the road. few years ago, i had the same problem, took it to a mechanic and they tightened my upper strut mount and problem was solved. so, today, i took my car to the mechanic that worked on it, he drove it and said that thats not the problem and i have a bad rack and pinion. but the sound feels like i have a loose suspension.
later, he showed me how he diagnosis loose suspension on the car. with a rubber hammer, he banged on my struts, control arms ect… but when he banged on the support arm under the trani and engine, it made a metallic noise. according to him, nothing should make a metallic noise if its right.
long story short, i dont think its my rack and pinion cuz it feels alot more than that.
i asked him just to tighten the upper strut mount and he said that it would crush the cup thats under it.
how can you gage properly how tight to make the upper strut mount. and please let me know anything else that comes to mind.

specially when im moving 1-5 MPH.
btw. i have an 04 vw gti
their are books on your vehicle that shows all of the torque specs for all bolts and nuts on the car all you gotta do is find out what that is and get a torque wrench and it pretty much does the work for you but the mechanic should know that if not he’s a complete idiot and you shouldn’t go to him anymore or you should just listen to him cuz he obviously knows more than you do about cars
